As I began reading the Fisher Report I did so with a dual focus, that of an elected civil service officer and that of a member of the campus community. After finishing the report, I was disappointed in that my expectations had not been met. The report was informal in tone, but more telling for me was how incomplete the report was. As one of my constituents remarked, "we've been forgotten again." Not only was there no mention of issues related to civil service but staff in general have been left out as well as several other major functions and/or units on campus. A more complete picture of the campus would have helped us shape the direction we need to move with a new president. Many of us in civil service are eager to participate.
I believe that this is an important time for the university. We are ready to take the next step that will move us forward. As a member of the campus community, I see many exciting possibilities imbedded in the report. Voices from all over campus should be brought together to help develop the strategies that will help us make that move .
